Update 2016 04 06

The underlying issue with the SAP 2009 and 2012 product databases has been resolved by BRE.

Updating and re-loading the databases in the normal way in JPA Designer will resolve the problem.

Original message

Users updating the product databases used by the JPA Designer SAP modules after 29/03/2016 are likely to experience problems with the program, with error messages referring to 'duplicate strings' and corrupted display within JPA Designer.

The problem is caused by a duplicate entry for a company in the March 2016 versions of the BRE databases.

We have raised this with BRE and they have resolved the duplicate in the SAP 2012 database, but not in the SAP 2009 database.

In the meantime, as a temporary fix:

  1. Download the databases again using JPA Designer. This will still give the string duplicate error, but will ensure you have the correct SAP 2012 database.
  2. Close JPA Designer.
  3. In Windows Explorer go to c:\ProgramData\JPA\JPA Designer and delete pcdf2009.dat.
  4. Download the file pcdf2009.txt using this link: http://www.techlit.co.uk/downloads/pcdf2009.txt. You will need to right click on the link to save the file rather than view it in your browser.
  5. Save the file into c:\ProgramData\JPA\JPA Designer.
  6. Change the extension on that file from txt to dat.
  7. Open JPA Designer.

Note that c:\ProgramData is a hidden folder on Windows: you will need to adjust the visibility settings using Windows Control Panel in order to see the folder. In Windows 7:

  1. Open the Folder Options control panel.
  2. Select the View tab.
  3. In the Advanced settings pane, open the Files and Folders list, and then Hidden files and folders.
  4. Select Show hidden files, folders and drives.
  5. Click OK.
